Liturgy frontman and avant-garde black-metal musician Hunter Hunt-Hendrix is back to pushing the genre's stringent boundaries, this time with a video opera titled Origin of the Alimonies. The piece fuses metal, classical and trap music to tell the story of "OIOION and SHEYMN, a pair of divine beings whose thwarted love tears a wound from which civilization is generated, producing the Four Alimonies of the intelligible universe and the task of collective emancipation." In the newly released trailer for the work, the characters appear as bizarre otherworldly anthropomorphic creatures interacting with light and sound in a way that hints at the creation of these "four alimonies."

Hunt-Hendrix, a polarizing figure in metal to put it lightly, is no stranger to imbuing his art with experimental imagery and concepts. Like his infamous treatise "Transcendental Black Metal Manifesto," Alimonies will almost certainly draw mixed responses from those in the metal community. This performance, featuring the film and live score performed by 12 cross-genre musicians, will stand as the prologue to a multi-part opera titled OIOION and the central bit of an upcoming philosophical lecture series.

Origin of the Alimonies will be presented at New York City's National Sawdust on October 25th. Tickets are available here, and more information can be found on the official website.
