What does it mean to say that God is One? One might think that Unity refers to simplicity or a sense of totality or being all-encompassing. But these are not the most important senses in which God is One. God’s Unity is the same as God’s life and actuality. A good terrestrial comparison is an institution or a scene. People contribute to it in an ad hoc way, it has varying degrees of formal and informal involvement - but the scene is alive, it is an organism that needs energy and also gives energy.
